The University of Georgia Wind Symphony will be premiering the band version of Asperges Me, Domine. This will be conducted by UGA graduate conducting student Matthew Sadowski and will take place on October 25th at 7:30 in Hodgson Hall at the UGA Performance Art Center.
Tyler's piece, The Master Speed for SATB, will be soon available through Santa Barbara Music Publishing. This work uses a text by Robert Frost, a rare poet used in choral works due to strict regulations on his estate.
Tyler's work Echoes for Alto Sax, Horn, and Piano will be performed in St. Petersberg on June 11th at Zona Zvuka, a music store. Performing the work are musicians from the famous Mariinsky Theatre. Details will be posted soon.
Tyler is currently working on his final project for his doctoral degree at the University of Georgia. He is composing a monodrama for Fredrick Burchinal, a Metropolitan Opera baritone, and wind ensemble. The work is based upon Edgar Allan Poe's short story "The Tell-Tale Heart."
Tyler's choral work Asperges Me, Domine was selected as the first prize for the Busan Choral Festival's 2015 Composition Competition.
Applications for the Competition came from all over the world, including Canada, China, Colombia, Cyprus, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Poland, Slovenia, South Africa, U.K as well as the United States. We highly appreciate their brilliant works.
However, some of them were too experimental to be played by voices. As the Busan Composition Competition much prefers artistically higher quality songs, so the judgement focused on it. The 1st place winner of 2015, 'Asperges Me' shows fine effects of choral sound, even though it has a wide voice range.
All winners of the 1,2,3 places are invited to join the 2015 Busan Choral Festival & Competition and will receive their Diplomas during an Award Ceremony on Saturday,October 17, 2015. The Prize Money will be sent to their bank account within 2 weeks after finishing the BCFC.
The 3 works of prize winner will be performed by Gyeongju City Chorus on the stage of Main Hall at Busan Cultural Center during the Award Ceremony as well. The winner can join them in rehearsal.
As a member of the 2015 BCFC, they will be entitled to participate in all the Festival activities including the Choral Competition, Choral Workshops and additional performances.
If a winner cannot join the Festival, the BCFC committee will mail the Diploma via First Class Mail to the address provided in the Application Form.
